Book display focus this month is on three great festivals in Edinburgh
The Edinburgh International Book Festival brings together outstanding writers and thinkers from around the globe. From “Pop in and Play” sessions for young children to appearances by beloved children’s authors, emerging talent, and world-famous literary icons, there is something for every reader. Take a look at the programme—you can expect vibrant debate and fantastic entertainment!
The Edinburgh International Festival was founded in 1947 to unite performing artists from across the world following the horrors of the Second World War. Now under the direction of the acclaimed Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti, it remains as extraordinary as ever.
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe was also born in 1947, sparked by eight theatre companies uninvited to the official festival who decided to perform anyway. This year, the Fringe boasts over 3,000 shows! Featuring everything from world-renowned performers to emerging talent aiming for their big break, it has launched countless legendary careers—including a vital platform for women in stand-up comedy.
We’re delighted to showcase a selection of books on the Performing Arts right here from Preston Community Library’s collection.
