Children’s Laureate
The writer and educator, Saman Shamsie , is the author of five books for children: Think of Good Things (OUP, UK 2025), Wali Dad (OUP, UK 2025), Where The Rivers Meet (OUP 2020), The Magical Woods (OUP, 2014) and The Adventures of Slothful Sloughoff (OUP, 2010); her story “The Heartbeat Tree” appeared in Magic Stories for Eight Year Olds (Puffin India, 2011). She lives in Karachi, Pakistan,
and teaches at Karachi Grammar School.
In 2013 Saman received a Masters in Education Management from King’s College, London. While in London, she was involved in the Preston Community Library Campaign and later, named its Children’s Laureate.
In 2016, the library held its first ‘Saman Shamsie Young Writer’s Challenge,’ for children.
This Creative Writing Programme for Children is ongoing and we warmly invite children to send us their stories:
Saman continues to monitor this is conjunction with fellow educator, English as Other Language ‘ESOL’ lead at PCL.
We look forward to Saman’s visits every summer and children love to discuss their writing with her.
