Volunteer with us!

Preston Community Library has always been run by volunteers and they are essential to keeping a local library in our neighbourhood. They give their valuable time to provide free access to books, computers and other services and events.

Please note  that we are pausing our recruitment of new volunteers until the end of April 2026, as we already have several volunteers waiting to be trained, which we must complete before accepting any new application forms. Thank you for your interest and please check this page again after April 2026.

Volunteering provides opportunities to learn new skills, expand and develop your existing skills, add to your CV, meet new people and be part of a community

There are many ways to help the library. You could …

  • take a Library Desk Role – welcoming visitors, answering phone calls and registering new members – or maybe issuing or re-shelving books.
  • offer IT or technical support
  • provide practical skills – for example, snagging problems in the building.

All volunteering roles in the library require you to have a basic level of IT skills, because we use an online volunteer management system for organising our rota, but training on the system will be available.

If you are thinking of volunteering with us and would like more information, please email: prestoncommunitylibrary@gmail.com or call into the Library and pick up an application form. You can also download the form here.
